Coleman fuel is most common, or almost any unleaded gasoline will work,, and of course there is the equipment that uses propane, for both lanterns and stoves.
Diesel fuel is not used in today’s lanterns or stoves, and kerosene lanterns are very hard to find, an also stoves.
Edit: Chances are if the units are as you say over thirty years old, then either Coleman fuel or good white, (unleaded) gas is necessary, with the Coleman being the best and cleanest.
The additives in gasoline will eventually plug up the generator and needle valve.
oh god, pls stay away from the kids and any trees
It really depends on the stove and the fuel delivery system. Some stoves use propane canisters, while others use isobutane canisters, and others use a variety of liquid fuels. Since you said "pump type", I will assume that it does not use pressurized canisters, but some type of liquid fuel instead. Many stoves will run a variety of fuels, but may be difficult to light, keep lit, be inefficient, or gum up and stop working without constant cleaning. You could try kerosene or unleaded gasoline, but white gas is another possibility.
At 30 years old whatever it is you have may be kerosene powered or gasoline powered without the model number no one can advise. If it is a Coleman here is their web page to verify what fuel you can use.
